Manipulate Colors for Better Sleep

It is a common fact that the blue light from our devices can disrupt our sleeping patterns which leads to negative, significant changes affecting one's day-to-day life; however, not many people know why this is said or if it is even true. Why is sleep important? Optimal sleep is important as it is the human body's way to recharge itself, and the need for it changes as you age with females requiring 1-2 hours of more sleep. Good sleeping habits lead to better cognitive function- improved concentration and productivity- put a person at a lower risk for illnesses, both mental and physical- such as depression, type 2 diabetes, and normal sickness, and decrease the chances you are likely to get into a car accident. How does blue light affect my sleeping? Blue light interrupts your body's ability to fall asleep faster and disrupts the quality of sleep you are getting as the color blocks the production of melatonin which is a hormone that allows you to fall asleep. This is why it is recommended to avoid watching any screen 2-3 hours before bed for good quality rest. Contradictory, to further improve your sleep you can add red or amber light in your bedroom to help promote melatonin production. Little steps towards improving small habits like these ultimately improve one's satisfaction in life. Think about it, have you ever been unhappy when you were able to sleep and wake up early without feeling tired?
